Dasein – The Story Behind the Name
There are words that are not just spoken, they are also felt. And this is one of them.
Dasein is a German word that literally means: Be there.
The philosopher Martin Heidegger referred to this word to describe something we have all felt but rarely express, the fact that existing is not just being alive. It is also being somewhere, it is TO DWELL. It is to be shaped even without realizing it by the space that surrounds us.
For Heidegger, the human being exists through space. This is how this space becomes part of what we are.
When we read this for the first time, we knew that was what we wanted to say.
Science has confirmed it
Neuroarchitecture, the discipline that unites neuroscience with space design, has been documenting for a few decades what Heidegger intuited: the spaces where we live affect our nervous system, our emotions, our ability to concentrate, calm down, connect, and ultimately, our well-being.
We find that ceiling height can modify our way of thinking, that natural light regulates cortisol and affects our circadian cycle. Colors, textures, speak directly to the brain before the conscious mind processes it.
For a family that, for example, lives with emotional challenges, these are not aesthetic details. This is fundamental.
Why it matters
We founded Dasein with the firm belief that every family deserves a space that understands them. A space that is not only beautiful, but also functional for those who inhabit it.
A child who is easily dysregulated needs different spaces than one who is not. A family member with anxiety experiences the home in a different way. A space designed without considering its inhabitants can amplify tension. A space adapted to the particular needs of its inhabitants is literally a refuge.
At Dasein, we design not only beautiful spaces, but caring spaces.

The Name as a Promise
We choose to call ourselves Dasein because it is both a philosophical statement and a practical promise. It reminds us that with every project we are not decorating empty spaces. We are actually intervening the life experience of real people, with particular situations that deserve to be heard, attended to, and resolved.
Every decision made regarding material, light, and color affects how someone feels when opening their eyes in the morning, upon arriving home after a hard day.
This is a huge responsibility. And this is precisely why we are passionate about it.
